About Chabad of North Park
Who We Are
We’re Rabbi Dovber, Batya & little Yehuda Uzan —partners, parents, and part of the global Chabad family dedicated to spreading warmth, community, and Jewish life. After years of campus outreach and community building in Jewish communities across the United States, we felt a calling to reignite Jewish life in San Diego’s vibrant North Park community.
Our Mission
To create a warm, judgment‑free home where every Jew—regardless of background, level of observance, or life circumstance—can explore Judaism, celebrate community, and find practical support.
Why North Park, Why Now?
-
First Jewish center here since the 1970s. For decades, North Park’s Jewish population commuted elsewhere for services and social connection. We’re honored to write the next chapter in the neighborhood’s Jewish story.
-
Diverse, growing community. Artists, young professionals, families, and retirees all call North Park home. Our programs are tailored to that rich mix.
-
Accessible location. We’re minutes from Balboa Park, downtown San Diego, and major freeways—easy to reach by foot, bike, bus, or car.
What We Offer
-
Joyful Shabbat & Holiday Experiences – Spirited services, gourmet communal meals, child‑friendly programming, and take‑home DIY kits for those who can’t attend in person.
-
Classes & One‑on‑One Learning – Weekly Torah studies, Hebrew reading crash courses, and personalized study sessions over coffee or Zoom.
-
Kids & Teens – A Hebrew Club with hands‑on Jewish crafts, C‑Teen leadership meet‑ups, and holiday pop‑ups in local parks.
-
Young‑Adult Socials – Friday‑night dinners, volunteering projects, and “Torah & Tap” gatherings in local cafés.
-
Lifecycle & Pastoral Care – Weddings, brit milah/baby naming, bar‑bat mitzvah prep, hospital visits, and compassionate guidance during times of loss.
-
Community Service – Food‑drive partnerships with local shelters, beach clean‑ups, and mitzvah‑day events that unite Jews and non‑Jews alike in acts of kindness.
Our Vision
A vibrant Jewish hub where:
-
Every Jew feels they belong. No membership dues, reserved seats, or prerequisites—just an open door.
-
Learning is alive. Questions are embraced, and ancient wisdom meets modern life.
-
Goodness ripples outward. We cultivate a culture of volunteerism that benefits all San Diegans.
-
Future generations flourish. Children grow up proud of their heritage—and eager to pay it forward.

What is Chabad
Chabad‑Lubavitch is a worldwide Jewish movement that combines traditional Torah observance with an open‑hearted outreach philosophy rooted in Chassidic teachings. Founded in late‑18th‑century Russia, it emphasizes intellectual depth (“Chabad” is an acronym for wisdom, understanding, and knowledge) alongside joyful, practical mitzvah living. Today more than 5,000 Chabad centers and emissary families serve communities in over 100 countries, offering everything from holiday programs and Hebrew classes to social services and humanitarian aid. At its core, Chabad believes that every Jew - regardless of background or level of observance - deserves a welcoming space to explore and celebrate their heritage.
